Located in the Bassenthwaite meadowlands below Skiddaw in the United Kingdom, Mireside Farmhouse is a unique combination of rural tradition and modern comforts near Keswick.
Mireside Farmhouse, a solid stone house, is a 17th century listed building which rigorous National Park Authority standards maintain fully in character, to the extent of preserving some charming peculiarities.
The interior of Mireside Farmhouse has been tastefully furnished in a modern style. It is carpeted throughout, with the exception of a beautiful sandstone floor in the kitchen and a rugged slate floor in the boot room and is a Self Catering farmhouse for up to 8 people.
Outdoors, there is a large garden with stream flowing through, barbeque, orchard, an ideal location for a memorable holiday.
Mireside Farmhouse dates back to the late 17th Century and is a typical Lakeland farmhouse with the original house being extended on two occasions. The farm has been in our family since February 1801 when William Slater purchased "the Messuages, cottages. barns, stables, cowhouses gardens orchards, seventy acres of land, twenty acres of meadow and twenty acres of pasture" for one hundred and twenty pounds. The Slaters built Parkergate and High Side and have a long history in the village. evidenced by the headstones in St Bega's church. The family tree has been traced by distant relatives in Canada and in July 2000 there was a 'Slater reunion' with some 30 relatives returning from Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the U.S.
More recently, from 1938 Mireside Farmhouse was occupied by a tenant, John Mackereth,, until he passed away in 1995. The family still farm surrounding fields.
