Annually, the Mobile Arts Council in Mobile, United States, presents The Greater Mobile Area Arts Awards. This awards program acknowledges the important contributions that individuals, groups and businesses make to the cultural life of our community.
Nominations are solicited each spring, and the award recipients are selected by an independent panel of distinguished representatives of the Greater Mobile Area cultural community. The total contribution or body of work of the nominee and its impact on an artistic discipline or effect on the community are primary criteria for the selection process.
Mobile Arts Council presents awards in six categories: artist, business, educator, organization, patron and volunteer.
The Volunteer Award carries the added distinction of being named for Fred and Ann Delchamps, local art supporters that contributed not only their financial resources, but their time and talents as well.
The awards themselves are works of art. Each year, a local artist working in a different medium is selected to create a limited edition work that serves as the GMAAA.
Mobile Arts Council receives funding from the City of Mobile, the Mobile County Commission, the Alabama State Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency. We also receive contributions from a variety of corporations, businesses, and residents of the Mobile Bay area.
