Fort Montbarey Memorial Museum, (Musée Mémorial Fort Montbarey) Brest, Bretagne, France
The Fort Montbarey has been upgraded by the Association of the Memorial in 1984 to tell the story of Finistère during World War II.
The Museum occupies part of 3 hectares and includes 5 main rooms:
Bay I: Housing for 100 soldiers. The war "Brest" video projection room during the second world war.
Bay II: Workshop of artillery used also to accommodate 50 soldiers in soupente. Exhibition "the old shells in the storm" traces the escapes to Britain by boat to the appeal of 18 June 1940.
Bay III: Hall of Honor: maps tracing the evolution of the conflict from 1933 to 1945. Decorations and médaillées cities of Finistère.
Bay IV: Workshop artillery with slot 50 soldiers. We can see the models and vehicles as well as Brest in war .
Bay V: Housing for 100 soldiers. Exhibition: first French army landed in Provence.
The North District:
a. pharmacy - who also served as surgeons and the chaplain housing. With the accommodation, it houses an Exhibition of 1940.
b. accommodation - This is the first time that it provided, as soon as the design of the Fort, a place to isolate the sick and injured
c. The resistance room - room of the deportation. It is important seen by the younger generations, but is not recommended to take too young children.
South District:
a the feed store - with food in soupente clerks housing. During the second world war he served for German officers mess. It is they who have drawn the Eagle, the heads of horses and entered the currency. At the bottom right: "the loyalty is the essence of honour". This is a word of Bismarck. Right by entering: "the struggle leads us to victory." Left: "Germany live even if we die." An Exhibition on the commitment of finistériens Airmen in the free French forces is currently in development.
b. Bakery - The oven scheduled to cook 300 bread each day is still in working condition. The hook served to hang bags of flour to discharge them on a table. In the wall a conduit led for the work of bakery water.
c. Exhibitions - "the American Revolutionary War". -"Theatres of operations outside". Free France.
d. room of stewardship - Right by entering the reserve of wood. At left the back of the oven. Basically, there was a small well which took water to populate the fountain which results in the bakery.
e. The wine store.
Fort Montbarey Memorial Museum is worth a visit whilst visiting Brest in the Bretagne Region of France.
