Welcome to Museum of the American Railroad in Dallas, Texas in the United States.
We have a new name, Museum of the American Railroad. Why the name change? Our collection and our focus have grown over the years to encompass the story of railroading on a national level. The new name acknowledges our superlative assemblage of trains that now spans one-hundred years of rail history from coast to coast.
A new beginning, a new focus. The name change to Museum of the American Railroad coincides with an ambitious strategic plan prepared earlier this year. The plan provides for the creation of a greatly expanded museum of railroad history and technology. Programming will address the American Railroad as an institution and its effect on our lives and the landscape. Our name is also forward-thinking, with an added emphasis on the present and future of railroads.
Museum of the American Railroad in Dallas, Texas, will soon embark on a major capital campaign to build a much larger permanent facility that will house and present our collection in a manner befitting of its heritage. This new museum will be a valuable educational resource that is international in accessibility and appeal. It will also serve as a cultural center and a source of community pride in Dallas, Texas.
The Age of Steam will remain an important component of our collection and our programming. We will continue to present this important aspect of railroad history with care and diligence for the benefit of future generations.
