Nervous Nellie's in Deer Isle, Maine in the United States, offers jams, Jellies, preserves, marmalades, conserves, chutneys and syrups, all made by hand, in small batches, in a little jelly kitchen on the coast of Maine with a seasonal cafe and whimsical sculpture garden.
In Nervous Nellie's kitchen, muslin bags of fresh spices steep in juice and the kettle comes to a rolling boil. The windows steam up and the pine paneled kitchen fills with the fragrance of jelly-making. Like a vaudeville show, by turns whimsical, poignant, and grand, the aromas follow one another: the tart sweetness of Cranberry Peach Chutney, the elusive tang of Blueberry Ginger Conserve, the heavenly nectar of Red Raspberry Jam.
Nervous Nellie at Nervous Nellie's, in Deer Isle, Maine, the master of ceremonies, ladles each batch into jars and sets them in the pantry to cool, midsummer's wild dance, August's haunting song, September's majestic fanfare rest side by side at last, to make a jeweled memory for the long winter.
It?s hard to say exactly when Nervous Nellie?s began. Was it the first kitchen stovetop jar sold, the date of legal incorporation, or the moment Peter came up with a company name that sounded like the not quite, serious venture he imagined he was embarked upon? Like its beginnings, Nervous Nellie?s continues to be an unfolding, a process grounded now in the maturity of 25 years of life
