New Orleans Attractions
The National World War II Museum is a national treasure. Dedicated in 2000 as The National D-Day Museum and now designated by Congress as the country's official World War II Museum, this remarkable attraction illuminates the American experience during the WWII era with moving personal stories, historic artifacts and powerful interactive displays. From the Normandy invasion to the sands of Pacific Islands and the Home Front, the Museum brings to life the teamwork, optimism, courage and sacrifice of the men and women who won the war and changed the world.
Louisiana Children?s Museum
Find something new and fun to do each time you visit the Louisiana Children?s Museum. Explore and experience 30,000 square feet of hands-on fun, engaging exhibits and exciting programs - all designed with curious kids (and grown-ups) in mind. Pilot a towboat down the Mighty Mississippi. Shop until you drop in a pint-size grocery store. Dine in a five-star, role-play café. Ride a bike with Mr. Bones. Lift 500 pounds. Hoist yourself up a wall. Trap your shadow. Anchor the evening news. Stand inside a gigantic bubble. Create a masterful work of art and much more! Even little ones have a special space to climb, crawl, hide and explore.
Ride the Streetcars (Trolleys)
One pleasant and inexpensive activity is a ride on the world famous New Orleans Streetcars. Introduced in the 19th century as a means of public transportation, the streetcars, although much improved, still serve the same purpose. They are used by residents every day, and have become quite an attraction for visitors to the city. The St. Charles Avenue Streetcars route begins at the intersection of Carrolton and Claiborne Avenues. They travel from that point, river bound along Carrolton, then turn onto St. Charles Avenue, proceeding to Lee Circle. From Lee Circle the route is along Carondelet St. to Canal Street, then back down St. Charles, again past Lee Circle, and back to the starting point. Since it is public transportation, one may board or depart at any stop, approximately every two blocks.
Aquarium of the Americas
This is a world-class aquarium with state-of-the-art exhibits, allowing visitors young and old to experience underwater nature first hand. Visitors immerse themselves in the major marine and submarine habitats of North and South America, including the Caribbean Sea and the Amazon Rainforest. The aquarium also features thousands of fish, reptiles and birds native to these habitats. The newest addition is the Pacific Coast Adventure, which brings the cold Pacific Northwest to the deep South.
