The Roturua-Ngongotaha Rail Trust is a group of train enthusiasts who plan to make Ngongotaha Railway Park into Ngongotaha and New Zealand's leading fun attraction by establishing a Railway Theme Park.
The group has established an operation depot on the old Ngongotaha Railway Station site. Track has been laid for storage and maintenance. They have completed a clubrooms of some 100sq meters complete with kitchen and toilets and a large locomotive building is planned for the near future.
Also they have developed a park, Ngongotaha Railway Park, on the land fronting the Ngongotaha Road. It has some 1200 x 2400 paintings of old Rotorua, Ngongotaha, Mamaku and shows the history of the area.
The Ngongotaha Railway Park has developed the first stage of two oval tracks. One for a 71/4" gauge diesel/hydraulic train "Little Blue', and the other for a 16" gauge steam train 'Sir Roy'.
The park has become a great venue for birthday and special events parties. There is ample seating, the very special 'Bouncy Loco' as well as the unique 'Sidings Cafe' which is open to the public every weekend.
