Nestled in the southern foothills of the Sonoma Valley, the vineyards of Nicholson Ranch are planted in one of the world's most prized grape-growing regions. The Ranch enjoys a combination of soils, sloping hills and climate that is ideal for producing premium grapes for our hand crafted Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Syrah.

Come spend a relaxing Californian afternoon at Nicholson Ranch. Casual and friendly, it's a great place to taste fine Wines and enjoy sweeping Wine country views. At right is the view from our Redwood Terrace. You can also gather with friends lakeside, in the Fountain Courtyard, or meet at the tasting bar.

The Nicholson Ranch Tasting Room is architecturally designed to showcase our premium Wines as well as the work of premier local artists. Guests can sip delectable Wines while taking in the lakeside scenery and viewing the artwork displayed in the Overlook Gallery. Or, they may choose to meander outdoors into the Fountain Courtyard or out onto the Redwood Terrace.

Nicholson Ranch prides itself on small group, education-based tours and tasting. A typical tour might begin with a welcome to the Tasting Room and a taste of our current release Chardonnay. Then guests are often led into our Courtyard for a quick overview of the history of the Winery. From this point, if warranted, we will break the tour into smaller groupings (we try to keep the groupings to 25 at the most), in order to provide a more intimate tour and allow for more questions.

Tank Room - Tours will include visits and discussion of the vineyards, fermentation facilities and caves. Guests are treated to two additional Wines during their tour, allowing them to taste the Wines as they learn how the Wine was made. Finally, the tours return to the Tasting Room to taste one more Wine, and to continue their experience through one-on-one conversations with the "Ranch Hands."

Visitors to the Overlook Gallery are invited to enjoy the work of local artists. The gallery features a rotating exhibit of paintings, sculpture and mixed media works. The Overlook Gallery is aptly named as it actually overlooks the tasting bar. Artists are often on hand to discuss their artistic process with Tasting Room guests. Art, Wine, friends and great veiws - it all makes for a wonderful Wine country experience.

What a wonderful way to enjoy an afternoon in the Wine country! Bring a picnic, buy a bottle of your favourite Nicholson Ranch Wine, and relax lakeside with friends. There are picnic tables with shade umbrellas, or you can spread your blankets out on the lawn.

The lake is home to largemouth bass, catfish, and the occasional river otter. Blue Herons, White Egrets, and an assortment of ducks visit regularly, while Red-Tail Hawks soar overhead. All this, and a glass of fine Wine...it's really hard to beat.
