Welcome to Nickelbros House Moving, Sidney, Canada. Nickel Bros. is a moving company. But instead of moving belongings from houses, this firm just moves the houses. While many house-moving companies typically move structures when requested by their owners, Nickel Bros. also buys and moves homes slated for demolition and then sells them.
And business is growing, says Jeremy Nickel, one of the brothers who runs the Canadian-based firm and is president of its U.S. business. He established a new office at the Port of Everett early last year; the company also has three other offices in this state, including Sidney. Growth around Western Washington has led to more development that threatens old houses and more people are learning about the option of moving homes instead of knocking them down, said Jeff McCord, sales representative for Nickel Bros. in Seattle and Everett.
Several years earlier he had arrived in British Columbia as an employee of a Manitoba based moving firm that wanted to expand into the western part of Canada. "House moving wasn't that uncommon in the prairies" recalls Henry Nickel. "Homes and barns were always being moved. It was and still is, an economical way of relocating that has been around for decades." Henry Nickel and his brother Richard eventually bought the British Columbia operation. Hard work and a keen eye for customer needs quickly made it a success.
Awards received by Nickelbros, House Moving, This award was presented to Nickel Bros. House Moving who advocate the recycling of heritage resources when retention is not possible. Without the efforts of this company, several significant buildings would not exist today and our landfill would be closer to capacity. Relocation of heritage is not the preferred alternative, but in some cases there is no choice. It is better to save an asset than to have it lost forever.
