The Nipissing Stage Company (NSC) was conceived, developed and operates out of North Bay, Ontario, situated on the shores on beautiful Lake Nipissing. Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in August 1999, the company was granted registered charitable taxation status in October 1999. Our mandate is to produce three popular commercial shows, one show representing a greater artistic challenge and one original Canadian work focussing on true stories of Northern Ontario, from mid-June through August. NSC also produces one Family show, one of which was also an original, locally written play. As well as providing summer entertainment for North Bay and other northern communities, it is NSCâ??s aim to help preserve the northern Ontarian heritage through its original productions.
In its first five seasons NSC operated as a professional summer repertory theatre company. In 2005 the company moves its programming away from repertory to summer stock.
NSC is administered by an Artistic Director, a General Manager, and a Subscription Coordinator, and is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors from the North Bay and area community. We are members of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT), Theatre Ontario and ASTRO (Association of Summer Theatres â??Round Ontario).
Our summer season provides seasonal employment for local and regional artists, craftspersons, support staff,and professional actors. Our technical positions provide summer employment for local young persons at the high school and university level. Seasonal positions include a Box Office Manager and acting, production and technical support staff.
NSCâ??s first summer season, June through August 2000, was both an artistic and financial success. 6,327 patrons attended our four productions. In the four years since the Company launched itself into the arts community of northeastern Ontario patrons have come from as far away as Sault St Marie, Niagara and North Carolina. A 3 ½ drive north of Toronto and 1 ½ hours north of the Muskokas, The Nipissing Stage Company is proving to be an attraction for the region during the summer months.
