'O Canada' House Bed and Breakfast in English Bay, Canada, was the 1997 winner of the prestigious "City of Vancouver Heritage Award of Honour" for outstanding refurbishment and interior decoration in the Victorian style of Queen Anne.
'O Canada' House Bed and Breakfast was originally built in 1897 as the private residence of Mr. Ewing Buchan, President of The Hamilton Bank and a prominent citizen of early Vancouver. In 1909, Mr. Buchan wrote one of the most well-known English versions of our National Anthem in this award-winning heritage home. The first public singing of "O Canada" took place at a luncheon meeting of the Canadian Club in Vancouver on February 9, 1910. In the process of restoring this historic English Bay residence, we have maintained the original late Victorian ambiance, charm and warmth of the home while still keeping in mind the conveniences needed by modern travelers.
'O Canada' House Bed and Breakfast is large enough to ensure maximum privacy and comfort in your suite, although we encourage you to enjoy the spacious main floor with its large entry hall and open staircase, an inviting front parlor with fireplace, and an elegant dining room with fireplace and individual breakfast tables. Of course, you may wish to sit out on the wrap-around porch or enjoy the picturesque English garden.
'O Canada' House Bed and Breakfast's friendly and knowledgeable staff are always available to assist guests in selecting a delicious dinner from the menus of the city’s most respected restaurants, or to help with sightseeing ideas. These might include an evening stroll in our quiet residential neighborhood of English Bay, the nearby colorful exuberance of famous Robson Street’s shops and restaurants, or through Stanley Park, a 1000 acre natural forest bordered on three sides by the Pacific Ocean. Should you choose to bring your vehicle, 'O Canada' House Bed and Breakfast offers on-site parking. Luggage storage is also complimentary.
