Welcome to Okanagan Science Centre in Vernon, British Columbia in Canada. Our mission at Okanagan Science Centre is to inspire scientific inquiry through dynamic and interactive educational programs and exhibits, and to encourage children and adults to appreciate the relevance and universality of science, and its application in the Okanagan.
The Interior Space and Science Centre (formerly the Vernon Science Centre) opened in October 1990 in the TOLKO building in downtown Vernon, British Columbia. We relocated to the heritage Park School in Polson Park in March of 1997.
Okanagan Science Centre offers a unique collection of hands-on exhibits that are based on scientific principles including sound, electricity and magnetism, light and optics, mechanics, astronomy and space science.
In addition to our general tours, we offer special programs including school break camps, birthday parties, and school field trips.
Okanagan Science Centre is community minded. We have participated in various community events including the annual Halloween Haunted House and the Air Quality Fair. We are also home to the Provincial Air Monitoring Station, which is available for public viewing. Several user groups also use our facilities including the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada.
The Vernon Science and Discovery Society is registered non-profit society #119283448RR001 (1985/08/22) that operates the Okanagan Science Centre. An annually elected volunteer Board of Directors directs both the Society and the Centre.
