President Lincoln's Cottage opened a new special exhibit, "My Abraham Lincoln" on Lincoln's 200th birthday, February 12, 2009. The exhibit will remain open through the end of the year. "My Abraham Lincoln" features private collections of Lincolniana, including an original manuscript and a Lincoln forgery, a sculpture of Lincoln made of pure silver and 1860 campaign memorabilia. Future exhibitions will explore other aspects of Lincoln?s presidency and legacy, displaying artifacts from Lincoln collections around the country.
President Lincoln?s Cottage at the Soldiers? Home offers a unique and historic setting for both private and corporate events. The site is comprised of two historical structures, an 1842 Gothic Revival home, and the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, a 1905 Beaux Arts style building, and the beautiful surrounding landscape. The site offers a wide variety of options for indoor and outdoor entertaining. Ample parking is available on the grounds and both buildings are fully accessible.
A visit to President Lincoln?s Cottage includes: The Signature Cottage Tour, an innovative small group tour in which a professional guide uses ?historical voices? and images through multimedia technology to bring the stories of Abraham Lincoln and his family to life, Self-guided exploration of the galleries, interactive exhibits and Museum Store in the Robert H. Smith Visitor Education Center, Viewing the new sculpture of Lincoln and his horse, Use of the picnic facilities behind the Visitor Education Center and there is free parking on site.
