The 18-hole, 72 par course offers a test for GOLFers of all caibres. Depending on the tradewinds of the day, this target style 6,705 yard championship course can range from well challenging, to most challenging. Featuring rugged limestone outcroppings, lush, indigenous landscaping, artfully designed lakes, beautifully manicured emerald greens ? it is a great test of GOLF for the professional or amateur.
Over 900 new palm trees, a combination of Winin, Areca, Sable and Washingtonian varieties; flowers in the form of cassia, Hong Kong orchid, pink tabby and frangipani, verdant bushes such as bougainvillea, oleander, copper leaf and Ficus have been recently planted. Provo GOLF Club also offers are furbished warm up range, practice chipping and putting areas, and the brand new fleet of electric carts.
Two new lakes on the 7th and 17th holes brings the total number of lakes to 12, with water on seven holes on the front nine and six holes on the back nine; abundant with resident and migratory birds, such as the flamingoes, egrets and herons.
Upgrades to the Clubhouse has tripled the size of the original Pro Shop which caters to GOLFers and non-GOLFers alike; sporting an emporium of brand-names including Polo Ralph Lauren, Nike, JS Lindbergh and Ashwood. Guests from around the world will also enjoy the wall of international GOLF flags adorning the interior and ceiling of the bar area. The chances of seeing a flag from the oldest course in Scotland or one autographed by Arnold Palmer are sure to create a buzz. Turks and Caicos Islands' Provo GOLF Club also boasts a beautiful West Indian inspired Clubhouse. This year Provo GOLF and Country Club will be the hosts of the 53rd Amateur Championship for the second time on Turks and Caicos Islands. The headline sponsor is to be Bordier International Bank and trust, and the event will be attended by 140 GOLFers.
The Caribbean Amateur Open began in 1957 with only two countries; since that time it has evolved into the largest annual GOLF event in the region, contested by 10 countries, including the Turks & Caicos Islands. Each country sends 14-person teams to compete in five divisions. The 2009 competition will see Puerto Rico looking to retain the title they won last year in the Cayman Islands. Spectators are welcome and TCI residents are encouraged to come out and cheer on the local team.
