The Museum is open 7 days per week.
Commencing in 1980 as the Queenscliffe Lifeboat Preservation Society, the Maritime Museum building was opened in 1986 to display Queenscliff?s last Lifeboat. Since then, the Museum has expanded to cover the maritime history of Queenscliff and Southern Port Phillip. In 1998 the name was changed to the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum to better reflect its ever expanding collection. Over the ensuring years a boatshed and many artefacts and historical buildings have become part of the Collection.
In July 2005, a purpose built archival repository was added to the Museum. This stand-alone building is temperature and humidity controlled and will be used for the storage of charts, maps, photographs, paintings and other original artefacts in need of careful conservation. It is envisaged that after cataloguing of the items in this repository has been completed they will also be available for maritime researchers through enquiries to the Museum?s Librarian Recently the Museum?s archival repository was included on the list of ?Community Places of Deposit? by the Victorian Public Records Office.
Queenscliffe Maritime Museum in Queenscliff, Victoria, is an incorporated body under the control of a Committee of Management. One full-time staff member is employed as Administration Officer. A loyal and enthusiastic band of volunteers ensures that the Museum operates successfully
