Rainbow Gardens in Port Alberni, British Columbia, Canada, is a one-story, 31 bed Multi-Level Care Facility funded by the Provincial Government Ministry of Health under the Continuing Care Program and licensed under the Hospital Act. Multi-level means residents assessed at any Intermediate Care Level or Extended Care Level are eligible for admission.
Design and operations of Rainbow Gardens are such as to reflect the West Coast Native Culture. Individuals of Native ancestry requiring long term care services receive priority placement. We are a non-profit society governed by a Board of Directors.
Rooms are private. Eight rooms have connecting doors to enable a couple to be together if they so wish. Wheelchair accessible ensuites, with sink and disabled toilets with grab bars. All rooms are wired for telephone and cablevision.
The Resident lounge has a large screen TV with VCR, piano, groupings of love seats, high back easy chairs, end tables, lamps and footstools. The lounge also features a corner rock wall fireplace.
Our Resident kitchenette is self-contained, with fridge, stove, microwave and dinette set to enable our Residents to share a private meal with their families.
The Activity room is designed for games, crafts, and physical therapy. Audio-visual equipment is provided as well.
Our bathing room contains a new state of the art tub with hydraulic lift chair and Jacuzzi. We also have a regular domestic tub with grab bars as well as a shower accessible to wheeled shower chairs.
The gift shop is located at the front entrance and is operated by Auxiliary members. Our grounds are large and well maintained with benches and pathways throughout the property. The longhouse is used for meals and activities. We have a greenhouse for our Resident Horticultural programs.

Rainbow Gardens plays a role in the community which includes education. We challenge and act against racism.
Each resident has a family they are important to whether it is the family within Rainbow Gardens or their relatives in the community.
The house we maintain for residents is comfortable and warm. Care provided is supportive and culturally appropriate to the individual. We are relationship focused.
