Having started its existence in 1985 as a popular gastro-inn in Kreuzberg, the eventful history of Restaurant Maxwell led it via Wilmersdorf right into the heart of  Berlin, Germany.  It was here that Restaurant Maxwell took up residence in 1995 in an atmospheric building with its own courtyard.  The listed building dates back to 1893 and was once the site of the Josty brewery.  With its neo-gothic facade Restaurant Maxwell now nestles in one of the  most beautiful inner courtyards in the city of Berlin.  In the summer Restaurant Maxwell can seat up to 100 people.  Even today  Restaurant Maxwell enjoys one of the most exclusive addresses in Mitte. Thanks to its individual character and its well-balanced price range,  Restaurant Maxwell has a large number of loyal patrons, amongst them a good number of VIPS and celebrities from the worlds of politics, music, theatre, film and the visual arts.

At Restaurant Maxwell we like to look after our guests in a chic and stylish ambiance.  Of course on a warm summer's night it is wonderful to enjoy a candlelit dinner in the courtyard under a moonlit sky, but inside, Restaurant Maxwell conjures up no less of an atmosphere of taste and attention to detail. Sitting on burgundy-red leather seats at stylishly laid tables you can enjoy the select works of art you will see there. In cooperation with Gallery Taik, also located in the courtyard, we are exhibiting at the moment in Restaurant Maxwell works by Gabriele Basch, Robert Lucander as well as Ola Kolemainen.

The restaurant kitchen serves a refreshingly light and contemporary menu and uses local produce from Berlin's surrounding area wherever possible. The lovingly served dishes created in-house find their perfect accompaniment in our special selection of international wines. Allow yourself to indulge in the fruits of our culinary art!
