Situated in the heart of the Floral Kingdom, Betty's Bay is part of the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, protected by UNESCO and identified as one of the world's 18 biodiversity hot-spots. Thousands of plants are found in the area, including the well known Protea and Erica species. The Reserve is a birdwatchers paradise while baboons, grey mongoose, gennets and buck can be encountered if you are lucky enough to spot them.
Betty's Bay is home to the world renowned Harold Porter national botanical gardens. Ample walks & hikes for all energy levels are to be found in the garden and around the villages of the Overstrand. White, sandy beaches contrasted with rocky shores, mountains with sparkling waterfalls and natural fresh water lakes create a paradise of biodiversity.
Visit one of only two mainland Penguin colonies in Africa at Stony Point where the remains of an old whaling station can still be seen. Hundreds of birds and small mammals may be viewed in their natural habitat from a comfortable boardwalk. Visiting during the whaling season is a must when these beautiful creatures mate &calf close to our shores.
Fishing and crayfishing are popular activities during season, and a climb to the top of the dunes at Silversands beach is worth the view and receives the reward of some amazing sandboarding on the way down. Enjoy a stroll down main beach, you might be lucky to spot the Cape clawless otter playing on the sand.
Enjoy a swim at the nearby Palmiet River with its protected rock pools.Various of the defined hikes in the area start at the Fairy Glen Picnic site next to the river.
