Welcome to Revive in Murwillumbah
Christa Maria Robnik - Christa grew up in the jewellery trade in Sydney, where her parents established Alexander's Jewellers in Parramatta. She chose to study gemology, become a jeweller, and up until now has continued to work in the industry, specialising in individual hand-made design work.
Scott McRae Collingwood - An early interest in coins helped to spark Scott's fascination with geography, that in turn has lead to a very keen interest in collectable coins, old and new, local and international. Scott has a B.A in Geography and when not in the shop is studying a B.Ed (Secondary Education) at Southern Cross University in Tweed Heads.
"Australian coins are amongst the most collectable in the world, and collecting them is a great way to learn more about history, geography, economics as well as the practical value of forethought.
History - Many important Australian events are recorded in our coins. - The Holey Dollars, The 1966 50ยข (marking the change-over from pre-decimal (Pounds, Shillings, Pence) to our current "Dollar Decimal" system), and the many Centennary of Federation coins and medallions. The Royal Australian Mint records history on its many modern commemorative fifty-cent issues.
Geography - By collecting coins we can realise that practically everyone around the whole world, no matter how bizarre or different they seem, also uses that most basic thing every day - the coin!
Economics - Of course coins and banknotes are intimately connected to the study of economics, and keeping an eye on the changing value of precious metals (such as gold and silver) as well as the $A exchange rate helps to to learn how economics works. Buying a certain coin and watching its value increase over time is also a great introduction into the principles of investment.
Forethought - And in my view best of all, to own a coin that is many, many years old and still in pristine condition is a great lesson in the value of taking good care of things.
At Revive, Murwillumbah we are interested in helping to Revive an active interest in coin-collecting in the community. We never attempt to 'Revive' our coins by polishing them or dipping them in cleaning solution or altering them in any way. We encourage all 'true-blue' coin-collectors avoid such heinous practices as well.
