The Sagamore Bridge was constructed about two and one half miles from the eastern end of the Cape Cod Canal land cut.
The type of Bridge is know as a steel arch and construction started on Sagamore Bridge on December 1, 1933 and was further opened to traffic on June 22, 1935. Length of main span is 616 feet and the width of the roadway 40 feet, the Bridge spans 4 lanes and the total length of Bridge and approaches 1,408 feet. The cost of the original structure was $1,400,000.
According to the Massachusetts Highway Department (MHD), the Sagamore Bridge carries approximately 55,000 vehicles per day (AADT), a volume that often doubles on summer weekends.
