No more than a stone's throw from Savignyplatz, the Savoy Berlin in the Fasanenstrasse was opened in 1929/30.

Heinrich Straumer, a member of the Werkbund, a German association of architects, designers and industrialists, wanted to build the most modern and comfortable Hotel of his time. A representative of moderate modernism, he succeeded in combining tradition and innovation, comfort and formal austerity. Following his concepts, bourgeois estates and technical buildings were constructed. One of his best known works is the Funkturm in the Berlin fairground which is still a popular landmark visible from afar.
