Welcome to Sawyer Cabinetry, Blue Hill, Maine, United States. I was trained in Furniture construction here on the coast of Maine. In 1997 I built and opened my own cabinet shop, Sawyer Cabinetry in Blue Hill and began making Furniture.
I approach every piece I make with a thorough and attentive eye?whether it is building from a customer's photograph or an original design incorporating a client's needs and tastes. I encourage input from clients, which serves to reinforce the character and distinction that comes out in each piece. I primarily use traditional joinery techniques on domestically grown hardwoods and custom craft each piece to last a lifetime. The challenge, and much of the pleasure in Furniture design is to maintain a fluent, subdued, and honest elegance.
I use domestic hardwoods selectively, choosing grain patterns as the principal adornment. Exposed joinery and hand-cut dovetails enhance the design, while ensuring strength and integrity. I apply a hand-rubbed, rich danish oil finish to bring out the warmth in the wood. For me, a piece of fine Furniture crafted simply and solidly should impart a captivating pleasant feel that outlasts trend and age.
