Welcome Seal Tours, Akaroa, New Zealand. Take a unique journey from the charming shoreline village of Akaroa, up over the rim of an extinct volcano, past spectacular farmland and ocean views, and down eastern slopes to the Pacific Ocean.

There, at the foot of one hundred metre cliffs, we will encounter an adorable colony of New Zealand Fur Seals, swimming and sun bathing amongst 8-million-year-old volcanic deposits.

Seal Tours Details:  Want to know more about Akaroa Seal Colony Safari?  Departure Time And Duration: Safaris depart from the Akaroa Information Centre (80 Rue Lavaud, Akaroa) at 9:30am and 1:00pm. The safari takes between 2 and 2½ hours to complete. Bookings must be made in advance. We reserve the right to cancel safaris if weather conditions are unsuitable.

Group Size: Safari groups include between two and six people. We restrict numbers to make the tour experience a personal one and minimise any impact on the environment.  Recommended Clothing

Please bring sound footware and a warm jacket - the wind can get chilly on the coastline at times.

Transport: We will travel through private property to the seal colony in an air conditioned four wheel drive coach, passing spectacular views of the countryside unavailable to other tourists.

At The Colony: The coach parks within 50 metres of the seals themselves. A short walk around the rocky cliff shoreline permits closer observation of the colony in its natural, undisturbed state. For those less inclined to walking the cliff base, ample opportunity exists to observe the colony from the relative comfort of large smooth surfaced rocks, strategically placed by nature some 10 metres from the coach park.
