Welcome to Rolf Parkerâ??s Skylark Studio, Cockermouth, Scotland. Skylark Studio is the main streets is housed in an old building which more than 100 years ago served as a stable for the horses owned by the local doctors. The premises have seen several uses since those days before they opened for their current purposes in 1994. The stable, bicycle, TV repair shop of former days is now an elegant display room while what was once a hayloft now contains Rolfâ??s studio with his etching press. The neat white walls of the Skylark Studio are now lined with fine examples of Rolfâ??s etchings and pastels while delicate shelving and display stands hold small pieces of jewellery and craftwork.
Visitors are welcome to browse to their hearts content in this small and intimate Studio where classical music plays gently in the background in harmony with the surrounding works of art. Rolf, who specialises in etching and pastel painting, has been working professionally as an artist for almost twenty years. He first felt the desire to be an artist during his schooldays in Stockton-on Tees and went on from A-level Art to successfully complete a BA degree in Fine Art at Lanchester Polytechnic in Coventry.His preferred themes of Cockermouth, the western lakes and coastal towns lend themselves perfectly to his artistic talents as he enjoys conveying the character of both urban and rural scenes through his careful use of light and shade.Skylark Studio is in the narrow part of South Street, between the Tythe Barn Pub and the Job Centre. Skylark Studio is open from 10am-5pm Tuesday to Saturdays.
