Welcome to the South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club, Cowichan Bay, Canada. In a valley beside the shores of Vancouver Island you will find the lush grass surface of the famous South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club. The noble game of lawn tennis has been played here in the beautiful Cowichan Valley for over a 120 years.
We are proud of our tennis heritage; proud of our loyal members, players and volunteers which make up our club. Each year we are host to many tennis events for the young and old including our annual Vancouver Island Grass Court Championship which is sanctioned by Tennis BC and ITF. Tennis players from around the world have gathered to play and share in the spirit of fun friendship and competition.
The South Cowichan Lawn Tennis Club is now the only tennis club in Canada playing on lawn and is also one of the two or three oldest tennis clubs in Canada. It was founded in 1887, only thirteen years after the modern game of Tennis was devised and only ten years after lawn Tennis was introduced to British Columbia by Chief justice Sir Matthew Baillie Begbie in Victoria. At the club's 100th Anniversary celebration, Jim Cochrane, a member of Wimbledon visited the club in Cowichan Bay to bring official greetings.
