The State Museum of Contemporary Art is situated in the northeast wing of the Moni Lazariston complex, with a total area of 3,300 square meters. The building was modified into a Museum according to modern international standards. The exhibition halls of the Museum permanently house part of the Costakis Collection, which alternates periodically. Since the Summer of 2001, the Museum also has another exhibition space at the Port of Thessaloniki. The Warehouse B1 houses the Museum's touring exhibitions. In the future, Museum plans to change its residence, and move at the industrial building of YFANET.
The Museum's Art shop is located on ground floor of Moni Lazariston as well as Warehouse B1 in the Port of Thessaloniki where visitors can find and purchase all the catalogues and publications of the State Museum of Contemporary Art, including posters from previous exhibitions and reproductions of art from the Russian Avant Garde, post cards, bookmarks, T-shirts and other items with reproductions from the Costakis collection. A great number of temporary exhibitions, parallel events to the permanent exhibition of the George Costakis Collection at the Moni Lazariston, educational and research programs, books editing and important international collaborations -all contribute to placing the State Museum of Contemporary Art in the framework of the major international contemporary art Museums.
