SteamRanger Heritage Railways is based at historic Mount Barker Railway station in the Adelaide Hills, just 30 minutes east of the centre of the city of Adelaide in South Australia. SteamRanger manages four steam locomotives and a number of historic carriages and owns other diesel locomotives and carriages in its own right.
SteamRanger is operated by volunteers of the Australian Railway Historical Society - South Australian Division. The Society receives no direct financial support from government and relies entirely on fare income, sponsorship and donations to survive. It is responsible for maintenance of all rolling stock, over 80km of track, plus a number of station buildings.
Regularly scheduled services are operated linking Mount Barker to the southern hills town of Strathalbyn and the Fleurieu Peninsula holiday resorts of Goolwa, Port Elliot and Victor Harbor. For details of steam hauled services look under "Trains".
