Welcome to Swansea Bark Mill & Wine and Wool Centre, situated in the historic seaside town of Swansea on Tasmania's sunny East Coast.
This Unique complex is a multi award-winning attraction, having received the Tasmanian Tourism Awards Special Mention in the category of Significant Local Attractions Heritage Tourism, and is also a winner of the State & Federal Museum of The Year Awards.
Bark from wattle trees used to be ground for use in tanning leathers. Some of the buildings at this mill were being constructed in 1885 and the last bark was ground in 1960. Now the mill is restored as a working museum with much of the old machinery still on site. A wide range of skins that have been tanned using wattle bark are on sale in the large craft and souvenir shop. An extensive range of East Coast and other Tasmanian wines are available for tasting and sale, and there are light meals at the Millers Pantry.
