Welcome to Te Arai Olive Estate, Mangawhai Heads, New Zealand. Our grove of 1800 trees is situated on a north facing slope overlooking the estuary, sand dunes, sea and Hen and Chicken Islands. We continue a family tradition of farming in this area begun in 1852.
The fertile clay loam and sheltered microclimate here combine to provide excellent conditions for growing olives.
Our trees are the classical Tuscan cultivars Frantoio, Leccino and Pendolino, and the Greek Koroneiki. They are hand picked and processed separately, using a modern centrifuge press. The oils are stored separately in stainless tanks under nitrogen, then carefully blended to produce a premium product with subtlety and complexity.

It is a fragrant oil of medium intensity with fresh olive fruit flavours, hints of green apples, toasted almonds, and a long persistent black peppery finish. It is ideal for use as a condiment drizzled over cooked vegetables, as a dipping oil or dressing for salads.
Motutira is grown, produced and distributed by ourselves, so that we can ensure the highest standards at every stage, and supreme quality. Extra Virgin Olive oil is a fresh product and is best used within two years of pressing and 12 weeks of opening. It should be stored in a cool dark position to retain its freshness and health qualities.
