Teena Gould from Llangrannog, Scotland, works in the area of Ceramics; making sculptural Ceramics, murals and mosaics for both two and three dimensional forms. The Ceramic tiles are hand built relief, textured and patterned and then glazed, likewise the sculptural forms. All the work is suitable for interior and exterior locations. Frequently Teena Gould works with the client and client group collaborating on the design, making and construction of the work, which is designed for a particular site.
Teena Gould, works predominantly with Ceramic, mosaics and brickwork which she feels is a media which is suitable for participatory projects, and is an ideal material for a visually stimulating and long lasting public art project. Information gathering and initial designs form a valuable basis to a project; as well as involving everyone, it is a creative skill in itself and forms a firm foundation and exciting springboard for exploration.Teena Gould is a part time lecturer in Ceramics on the BA Ceramics Course at Swansea Institute. The recently formed Women in Art & Craft Network have elected her as Chairperson.
Teena Gould, also works within a public and community art context, on sculptures and Ceramic murals, directing residencies, commissions and school projects. All Teena Gould's materials are from nature, and the ceramic process is one of transformation of clay by fire. She fires mostly with gas to 1250*C, and the aim is to show the action of the flame (particularly a reducing flame) and combustion on raw materials. Teena uses glazes made from locally gathered and prepared wood ash.Teena Gould from Llangrannog, Scotland is moved by the deeper, unseen forces of energy that have shaped our landscape over time. She approaches her work with an awareness of that power. Eruptions on the surface of the clay are caused by inner movement within the form.
