Welcome to The Theatre Royal Haymarket, London, United Kingdom. The Theatre Royal Haymarket has played host to the best actors, writers and directors for almost three centuries. The Theatre Royal Haymarket Company has been created to display the work of the most exciting contemporary artists, initially with three productions by the acclaimed opera and Theatre director Jonathan Kent.
In presenting this season, Jonathan and his team have agreed to run an apprentice scheme in collaboration with Theatre Royal Haymarket Masterclass Trust. This charity was formed by the Haymarket to support young people with an interest in Theatre, and in nine years over 40,000 people have benefited from classes and workshops given free by the profession's most distinguished artists.
For these reasons we hope that you will be able to support our venture and enjoy the productions Jonathan has selected for our launch season. The new Theatre Royal in the Haymarket, London, United Kingdom, was a success, one production 'Cherry Ripe' ran for 114 performances, which was a long run for the period, another caused a sensation when a woman was employed to play the part of Falstaff in 'the Merry Wives Of Windsor' Julia Glover had previously also played Hamlet in 1821 at the Lyceum Theatre. Phelps first appeared there in 1837, and Macready in 1840, and by 1843 the Theatre was so successful that it was apparently acknowledged as 'being the equal of Drury Lane.'
