The Thistle Down Country Inn is Digby's only Country Inn directly on the shores of the Annapolis Basin, home to some of the highest tides in the world in Nova Scotia in Canada. Rated four stars by Canada Select, and a proud member of the Nova Scotia Association of Unique Country Inns, The Thistle Down Country Inn offers the finest in relaxing Bed and Breakfast accommodations in Digby, Nova Scotia.
The main house was built in 1904 for prominent, local businessman J. L. Peters. It retains the rich detailing of the period, and its six guest rooms are sumptuously furnished with antiques and art works. All six rooms in the Harbourside Lodge (built in 1996) have views of Digby Harbour, its famous Scallop Fleet, and the Bay Ferry, Princess of Acadia, terminal.
All our rooms are non-smoking, though we do provide designated smoking areas. We are pet-friendly. Please let us know if you will be bringing your four-legged friend.
Like the tide, which rises and falls about an inch a minute, life is unhurried. Twelve beautifully appointed rooms, all with private bath, Cable TV, telephone, high speed internet connection, and air conditioning, invite you to slow down and unwind. Experience the charms of another era in this lovingly maintained 1904 Edwardian home. Enjoy dInner (by reservation) in the gracious Queen Alexandra Dining Room (licensed). From the garden, you can watch the sun rise over the Annapolis Basin, the activity on the wharf, the Saint John Ferry, or the sun set over Digby Neck and the North Mountain.
Fortify yourself for the rigours of vacationing with our complimentary breakfast in the Queen Alexandra Dining Room (named for the Queen Consort when the house was constructed). Your choice is cooked fresh, to order. And where else should you eat a scallop omelet, if not in Digby?
Breakfast is served at 7:30, 8:00 and 8:45 Frommer's Guide notes that "DInners in the intimate dining room are among the best in Digby, with an emphasis on the local scallops, prepared creatively and simply." There's only one thing we could add: Dessert!
Digby is the perfect place to "hang your hat" while you see all that Western Nova Scotia has to offer. Close to historic sites, parks, golf courses, hiking, birding and whale watching, come and discover why Digby has been called, and still remains, "The best kept secret in Nova Scotia."
