Welcome to Tweet's Balzano's Family Restaurant, Bristol, Rhode Island, United States. Tweet's Balzano's Family Restaurant has been a tradition for family's not only in Bristol and Rhode Island, but all over New England for over 50 years! Tweet's serves family style pasta by the pound, and it's own special "Tweet's" pasta sauce that keeps people coming back. A Bristol 4th of July celebration is not complete without a trip to Tweet's!.
It began in 1954 when "Papa" John Balzano started a community club where locals could gather to swap tales of fishing and hunting, play cards or bocce, and share in the delights of old world Italian cuisine and seafood dishes.
By 1960, Pampa and his wife, Mamie's son Anthony "Tweet" Balzano and his wife, Millie, bought the building and opened it as a family restaurant. Pasta by the pound and luscious steamers along with Tweet's unique personality drew crowds from all over southern New England.
In the late 70's and early 80's "Tweet's" moved for a time to the Bristol Motor Lodge on Metacom Avenue and Tweet and Millie's oldest son, John, who had studied culinary arts at the Culinary Institute of America took charge of putting together delicious dinners for banquets, weddings and social functions. "Tweet's" moved back to it's original location into a brand new much larger building, on the family land on Mt. Hope Ave.
On February 12, 1995, disaster struck in the form of a fire that leveled the original wood frame structure. The family pulled together and in August of 1995 reopened the restaurant in it's present form.
In March of 1996, Anthony "Tweet" Balzano passed away , just months after helping to oversee the construction process.
Today, Tweet's sons, John and Billy carry on the legacy that both Tweet and his father Papa John had begun!
