Hidden away on the banks of the Great Kei River lies a small valley surrounded by cycad-strewn cliffs, eagle-view koppies and fig-cradled forests. The local Xhosa tribes describe this place as 'kwanto zonke' - 'here is everything'. Nestled in this secluded Nature Reserve you will find a rustic lodge, where harmony and tranquillity resonate with the ebb and flow of the tide, welcome to um Thombe Kei River Lodge in Kei Mouth, the Eastern Cape.
The pulse of the River is felt in everything here: whether you are gliding along in our kayaks, Hiking to hidden pools, Fishing for the legendary cob, or simply watching sunset turn the cliffs to gold as the crowned cranes fly home to roost.
Our rustic self-catering accommodation and camping will comfort you and with our kayaks and canoes, free of charge for guests and several Hiking trails, from easy to challenging, you will be kept busy.
The thatched 4-sleeper Chalets each have two rooms - one with a double bed and one with twin beds (both with en-suite showers) and a semi-open thatched braai/dining area with fireplace. Each room has a sliding door opening out onto a deck/lawn with lovely views of the river and cliffs opposite.
Fisherman's Haven is set right on the river bank, with access to its own jetty. The haven consists of four separate rondavels ? two are bedrooms, each with 2 single beds and mattresses. The other two buildings contain the kitchen and the bathroom. There is an outside braai with a table and benches.
Bush Cabin is a rustic wooden cabin set in indigenous forest overlooking the river. The cabin has one room with a double bed and an open plan room with two bunk beds and cooking area. The front deck, which has wonderful views over the river, is enclosed and serves as a dining area. There is an outside toilet and shower, and a braai area.
Camping: On the river-bank are grassed Campsites, with hot showers, washing up and braai facilities.
