This unique building was built by the U.S. Department of Agriculture as a weather bureau station in 1903. It was purposely perched at the center of both Harbors to serve the island's marine interests - built as a meteorological observatory, its premier location on the island enabled weather forecasts to be displayed by flags that could be seen in both Harbors. Considered to be on of the three mostr significant buildings on Block Island (the other tow being lighthouses) the Weather Bureau Inn is a magnificent example of Greek Revival-Style Architecture.
The romantic and formal victorian-style interior features fireplaces, antique, traditional period wall coverings and original mahogany paneling, mantels and wainscoting, reinforcing the Inn's elegant and historic ambience, relax with your favourite book in our cozy fireplaced parlour, decorated in a english nautical-style featuring solid brass weather instruments.
