Welcome to Wordsworth House, Cockermouth, Scotland. In the 1770s, when the young William lived in Wordsworth House it must have been a lively, bustling home. Imagine the noise, smells and clutter generated by a household of two parents, five children, four servants, and a variety of animals!
A house only becomes a home once it is full of the belongings of the people who live there. The challenge at Wordsworth House has been to find pieces likely to have been owned by families of middling status like the Wordsworths, and where possible originating from Cumbria. Today, the â??Bestâ?? rooms (at the front of the house) have been furnished with antiques, dating from the mid-late 18th century, collected over several years.Today, the National Trust has recreated this Attraction, so that visitors to Wordsworth House get a sense of what the poetâ??s early years were really like. Visitors may encounter some of the Wordsworthâ??s servants going about their daily chores â?? washing, cooking, cleaning. There is even a chance to join in, if you donâ??t mind hard work! Why not visit this Landmark Attraction in Cockermouth?
