Virginia Living Museum
The Virginia Living Museum is a wonderful attraction in Newport News where they showcase and exhibit living species from the mountains and the sea. Enjoy spectacular eco tourism and a fascinating visit and view coastal birds, beavers, otters, coyotes, endangered red wolves and other animals in naturalized habitats. With over 250 living species native to Virginia here, there are interactive hands on exhibits, so if you want to touch a live spider crab or see fossilised dinosaur tracks, fish with no eyes and frogs that change colour it's all here. The Virginia Living Museum is also home to the Abbitt Planetarium, a state of the art digital planetarium from where you can travel the universe. The Newsome House Museum and Cultural Center in Newport News, Virginia, is housed in an elegant historic site 1899 Queen Anne residence, and honors the legacy of Joseph Thomas Newsome and his ongoing fight for social justice within Virginia, for the local black community in the day. View the current exhibits and learn about the history and how Mr. Newsome became a respected lawyer, journalist, churchman and civic leader, and prospered as part of the new post Civil War South's new urban African-American middle class. United States Army Transportation Museum
The United States Army Transportation Museum in Newport News, Virginia, is dedicated to depicting the history of Army transportation, and the only museum to do so. Come for a journey through the years to view exhibits from horse drawn carts to all-terrain armored vehicles. The story of the history of U.S. Army transportation is depicted in the almost 7000 objects and artifacts on display, plus there are exhibit props and macro artifacts including planes, helicopters, tugboats, landing craft, trucks, jeeps, hovercraft and trains.
