Fredriksten Fortress
Fredriksten Fortress is a historical site on a hilltop above Halden, Norway, the scene and place of some of the most dramatic and bloody events in Norwegian war history, most notably the fall of Swedish King Karl XII in 1718. This national border guard and regional cultural arena is open day and night, and is free to enter, there is a large parking area here for visitors, the Fredriksten information centre is in the inner fortress, and here they offer information about the fortress, Halden and the surrounding area. Fredriksten Fortress has multimedia presentations about the history at regular times, and self guided tours are available, and throughout the year the fortress hosts events and cultural experiences for all tastes, come for a fascinating walk back in time.
