Heide Landscape2012-09-09
Heide Landscape is six hectares of gardens and parklands at Heide Museum of Modern Art, Bulleen, Australia, and is open to the public all year round. These gardens have been developed over many years, in conjunction with the museum. Originally a run down, treeless dairy farm, the new owners, John and Sunday Reed immediately took action and started a kitchen garden and also initiated a expansive planting program of exotic trees, and enhanced the circular driveway with a lavender hedge and fragrant ornamental flowers and roses. The aim of John and Sunday Reed was to create an informal park forest. In 1936 the Reeds included native plants in their garden, and to this day the Heide kitchen gardens are still functional and supply the cafe with fresh produce on a daily basis. Today Heide Landscape gardens are enjoyed by families and includes a sculpt park as well as several of the original, heritage listed, gardens. READ MORE

Montrose Botanic Gardens in Montrose, CO, was created through the stout efforts of the Montrose Botanical Society as an inspiration and educational tool for residents in their endeavours to cultivate an area in the desert that was once only tumbleweed and cactus. In 1995 a meeting of interested parties was held to discuss whether it would be possible to create a botanic garden for the City of Montrose. After forming the Montrose Botanical Society, and securing a 50 year lease on the three and a half acres of ground, the hard work began. With numerous generous donations received, the Montrose Botanic Gardens was able to erect permanent decorative fencing, and with the help of volunteers and professionals, many crabapple trees and perennials were planted, and at the end of 2001, the gardens were completed. There is no entry fee charged and visitors are welcome to enjoy the gardens at all times. We are proud to have hosted small weddings in our gardens as the beautiful views of the San Juan Mountains make it an ideal setting. READ MORE
