Walkden Gardens
Walkden Gardens in Manchester, United Kingdom, was named after the original owner, Harry Walkden who had stipulated that the grounds were to be opened to the public as a park, pleasure ground or as botanical gardens. The Friends of Walkden Gardens have done a stellar job in establishing breathtakingly beautiful gardens for the public to enjoy, and they also use the Theatre Lawn as performance space with profits from events being used to constantly improve the gardens. Pride of place at Walkden Gardens are the Japanese Gardens which have been divided into three distinctive and characteristic areas. These areas have been separated by archways and see-through bamboo screens, and our design ideas were based on ideas used in traditional Japanese gardens to create a peaceful, Zen-like garden of tranquility.
