Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum
The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Michigan was created by divers, teachers and educators to showcase and document historic shipwrecks in eastern Lake Superior, near Whitefish Point in Michigan’s scenic Upper Peninsula. This non-profit organisation has two museums on historic properties, and the mission of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society is to preserve, collect and study the material culture of the Great lakes. Visit the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum - Whitefish Point Light Station, the Historic U.S. Weather Bureau Building built in 1899, the Crews Quarters at Whitefish Point and Soo Locks with their 155 years of maritime history, where freighters, barges, tugboats and more traverse the 21-foot drop between Lake Superior and Lake Huron every day. They offer group classes and tours, and small groups can stay at the historic 1923 USCG Crews Quarters Building with private rooms available for rental. The Shipwreck Coast Museum Store features unique nautical gifts, books and videos, exclusive prints, lighthouse collectibles, come for a fascinating visit.
