Hexham Old Goal
Hexham Old Goal is a wonderful attraction to visit when in Hexham, Northumberland and will give visitors and insight into the crimes and punishments of Medieval days in Northumberland. This historic site brings history to life in the oldest purpose built prison in England, and was used until the 1820's. The building is now a museum and tourist information centre and visitors can delve into the dark history of the Old Gaol, the Shire and the Borders, and come away with an unforgettable experience. The area's history is also covered and there is a special Reiver Raid film about the terrifying Border Reiver raids, Hexham Old Goal is well worth a visit.
