Rottnest Island Museum offers an informative and interesting visit, and documents the history of the island dating back 70 years. Rottnest Island was originally an indigenous prison as well as later home to approximately 2500 military personnel who were stationed here to protect Fremantle harbour from the Japanese Naval invasion around the 1940's. Rottnest Island Museum is run by friendly volunteers and offers a fascinating history and insight into the island's past, a must visit.
