The Amherst Historical Society in Amherst, Ohio displays, preserves and exhibits the local history and sandstone heritage including locally produced sandstone architecture and other historically significant structures. Come tour the historic buildings and grounds complete with blacksmith shop where volunteer blacksmiths produce handrails, hinges, nails and other hardware for use throughout the Sandstone Museum Center. The Amherst Historical Society also offer chapel and hall rentals ideal for events including intimate weddings and receptions as well as rehearsal dinners, and is the perfect venue for special events and business meetings, there's the St. George Chapel for wedding ceremonies accommodating up to 60 guests, and the Grange Hall is perfect for the reception or party up to 80 guests. The Dorothy Molter Museum is located just outside Ely, Minnesota and is a memorial to this colorful lady known by some as the Root Beer Lady and others as the Nightingale of the Wilderness. Dorothy Molter spent most of her life living on Knife Lake and is the legendary last non-indigenous resident of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, where many a canoeist would stop and enjoy her hospitality and famous home made root beer. After her passing, her cabins were dismantled and transported first to Moose Lake, then to Ely, where volunteers restored them to become the Dorothy Molter Museum. This wonderful lady, a nurse by profession treated many an ailing visitor and animal, and she paddled, hiked, fished, skied and snowshoed this pristine area, until her death in 1986, she was visited by as many as 7,000 people a year. Today the museum preserves and interprets Northwoods wilderness heritage through learning opportunities inspired by Dorothy Molter, and visitors can view the many exhibits, the bird feeding area, enjoy tours and programs with knowledgeable guides and groups are welcome, there's also a gift shop with souvenirs and more, serving ice cold root beer and a picnic area under the pines.READ MORE

The Bois Forte Heritage Center and Cultural Museum in Tower, Minnesota celebrates the history, life and culture of the Bois Forte Band of the Ojibwe tribe. The Tower-Soudan Historical Society Historical Center in Tower, Minnesota includes a museum in the historic train depot, as well as a steam locomotive, a railway passenger car, Caboose, and homesteaders cabin. Located on an acre of land at the western entrance to the city of Tower, the land, steam locomotive, coach and depot were donated to the City of Tower for historical purposes, and the Tower train coach car is available for rental with tables and chairs, and can comfortably accommodate 22-45 people. The Tower-Soudan Historical Society Historical Center museum has hundreds of artifacts and photos as well as an information service, and the Homesteaders cabin was built in 1915 in the woods and hauled over the lake to Tower one winter. The Vermilion News Print Shop Museum in Vermilion, Ohio is housed in a historical building that served as a print shop and a weekly newspaper from 1905 to 1964 and here visitors can observe how 19th and 20th century letter press printing and newspaper publishing was accomplished. The print shop has two linotypes and four letter presses from way back, and there's also a book bindary, storage room with a manual paper cutter, electric stapler, and manual hole punch machine, come for a fascinating visit. The Vermilion News Print Shop Museum provides and overview of how news was gathered and distributed in the small towns of America back in the day, and what equipment was used to publish a weekly newspaper as well as to print books, magazines and posters using letter presses. Mentor Firefighters’ Historical Association2015-01-16

The Mentor Firefighters’ Historical Association is a non-profit organization in Mentor, Ohio which created the Mentor Safety House to reduce childhood injuries, and document the history of the Mentor Fire Department. Located in the historic district of Mentor, the Safety Village provides fire and injury prevention education to over 900 children per year, with children bussed in from local schools to participate in interactive safety lessons developed through the National Fire Protection Association’s Risk Watch curriculum. They offer safety lessons in the family room, kitchen and bedroom safety and the building also houses a fire museum with displays of antique fire equipment, and the refurbished and update Philip the Firetruck will soon be a museum on wheels. The Mentor Firefighters Historical Association also offer Camp 911 at the Mentor Safety House and Fire Museum for 3rd graders to educate them on various safety issues. They also host golf outings and other events annually, sig up to support, fund and donate to their excellent work.READ MORE
Lorain Sports Hall of Fame2015-01-13

The Lorain Sports Hall of Fame honors those synonymous with the best of athletic achievement in Lorain, Ohio and they are nominated by the general public with their plaques and other sports memorabilia displayed in the museum. You the public must submit the names of the athletes and their personal qualifications by September the 30th annually, and they will then be screened by the committee via a detailed evaluation process, and the end result is to establish a ballot for final election, votes are then done in February of the following year to select the Class of Inductees that are then enshrined at the annual Banquet in May.
