Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge
Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge in Crystal River, Florida, USA comprises over 31,000 acres of saltwater bays, estuaries and brackish marshes at the mouth of the Chassahowitzka River, and was established back in 1941 primarily to protect the waterfowl habitat being home to over 250 species of birds. There are over 50 species of reptiles and amphibians, as well as 25 different species of mammal including the West Indian Manatee which is on the endangered list. Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Refuge is a spectacular nature and wildlife area, a great place to do some kayaking, and some wildlife includes dolphins, ospreys, owls, river otters, black bear, crabs and of course the Manatee and more, come for the clear waters and beautiful scenery, it's a picturesque and peaceful place to visit, and kayak rental is available.
