Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge
Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge in Crystal River, Florida, USA was established in 1983 for the protection of wildlife and natural areas, and is the only refuge created for the protection of the threatened Florida Manatee, a sub species of the West Indian Manatee. The refuge preserves the aquifer springs havens in Kings Bay which provide critical habitat for that winter migrating Manatees that reside here then. Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge offer Manatee viewing above and under the water, and visitors may bring their own vessels, rent a vessel or join a guided snorkeling tour, there are also daily interpretive manatee talks in winter months, and several environmental education programs for schools and other organizations, a visit offers an unbelievable experience, and there are hiking trails, beachcombing and shelling to enjoy, don't forget the camera.
