The NOAA Ship OREGON II
The NOAA Ship OREGON II in Pascagoula, Mississippi conducts fishery and living marine resource studies and collects fish and crustacean specimens, and fish larvae and eggs using trawls and benthic longlines and midwater larval nets. They collect plankton using plankton nets and and midwater larval nets as well, and normally operate in the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Caribbean Sea. The NOAA Ship OREGON II supports the programs of the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Southeast Fisheries Science Center, and conducts surveys as well as annual support for the striped bass survey and tagging. The NOAA Ship OREGON II is a versatile fisheries research vessel designed for extended cruising range, versatility, habitability and seaworthiness, has new electronic fish detection equipment, a ship's laboratory, environmental sensors, deck-handling and electronic equipment, and new main engines.
