Towering above the entrance to the harbour is the pyramid mountain on the impressive island of Kunoy, and around the well-sheltered bay and harbour, the dwellings are beautifully spread on the hillsides.
The main source of income in the borough is fish and fishing. Over the years the locals have developed an expertise which ensures high standards of quality and production from modern fish processing plants.
Klaksvik is located between two inlets lying back to back. It has an important harbour with fishing industry and a modern fishing fleet. Originally, four farms were located where Klaksvik is now. In time, they grew into four villages that finally merged to form the town of Klaksvik. What triggered the development of the town was the establishment of a centralized store for all the northern islands on the location.
The Nordoyatunnilin, a submarine tunnel to Leirvík was opened in April 2006.
Klaksvík has several daily connections to the "mainland" of the Faroes and V·gar Airport by car ferries and buses. In turn, the Islands are linked to the mainland of Europe, Britain, Iceland and the USA by daily and weekly departures of modern cargo ships,
