The artificial lake is in the rather rain-poor middle Franconia and ranks with further lakes among the Frankish sea-country.
In this sea-landscape the Brombachsee borders itself on two further seas, i.e. the more highly lying and Brombachsee (bromine brook before barrier), following west, and likewise the more highly lying and northwest bordering hedgehog brook lake (hedgehog brook before barrier). These two offspring of Brombachsee are separate by two long dams from 18 and/or 16 m height from it.
The Brombachsee receives its water from the two offspring mentioned before, particularly from the small bromine brook lake, which refers its water again from the Altmühlüberleiter. The discharge is the bromine brook, which flows somewhat to far east the lake and/or underneath the dam with Pleinfeld into the Swabian Rezat.
The large bromine brook lake as part of the Frankish sea-landscape is an important local recreation area for the population centre Nuremberg. Among the leisure offers rank among other things water haven including bathing, sails, Windsurfen, Kitesurfen and round travels with the Trimaran ms bromine brook lake.
By the lake the ground-water level in the region rose, why in many houses of the neighbouring localities meanwhile water break-downs are to be registered. The water authority seized measures and put on drainage and Tiefbrunnen. Unfortunately partly also damage was announced for adjustment, which is due from lack of building of earlier years. The problem treatment is not final yet.
