Daugavpils borders Belarus and Lithuania and is a city on the banks of the Daugava River from whence the name, and is located in southeastern Latvia, surrounded by many lakes and nature parks. There are a number of accommodation choices, fine dining and casual restaurants and many Russian speaking people reside here. The most famous landmark is Daugavpils Fortrees, the only early 19th century fortress in Eastern Europe that has remained virtually unchanged, there are also numerous museums, art museums and historical sites, a zoological garden, churches and cathedrals to visit while staying here, and guided tours are available.
